Startups Need to Care More About People with Disabilities in Indonesia

People with disabilities in Indonesia are currently still being ignored. In fact, in 2019 alone, people with disabilities in the country have reached 26 million people based on data from the National Socio-Economic Survey (Susenas).

For this reason, startup developers are currently trying to encourage attention for people with disabilities.

One of them comes from Hear Me, which is a sign language interpretation application for people with disabilities who are deaf and speech impaired.

Hear Me CEO Atalia Mutiara Laksmi said that the development of the application aims to bridge communication between people with disabilities and the community.

“We hope that with the application that we present there will be awareness from the community and the government to understand the importance of providing sign language access for friends with disabilities,” he said at the 2022 Entrepreneur Financial Fiesta (EFF) event in Nusa Dua, Bali, Monday (8/8). .

Furthermore, Atalia also hopes that attention will not only come from developing the application, but also from the government to make regulations to provide access for friends with disabilities.

Not only from Hear Me, startup others also have serious concern for persons with disabilities. Accessive.id is the name, where this application will find places that can be easily accessed by people with disabilities.

Accessive.id co-founder Bima Indra said that one of the problems with disability in Indonesia is the accessibility of various places in Indonesia which is still low.

“It is very difficult to find places that can be visited by people with disabilities because many places do not yet provide physical facilities for people with disabilities, while information about the accessibility of a place is currently very limited. This information is very important for people with disabilities to plan their activities,” said Bima.

Based on the problems above, Accessive.id is also here to provide information about places that are accessible for people with disabilities to make it easier to plan their activities.

Bima hopes that with the presence of this application, the involvement of people with disabilities in all aspects can be helped.

Please note, the two startups are the result of curation from the EFF event initiated by the Ministry of Cooperatives and SMEs.
