South Korean Battery Manufacturer Showcases New Technology in Seoul

South Korean battery majors will showcase their latest technology and vision for future growth during the international battery fair in Seoul this week.

SK On Co., LG Energy Solution Ltd. and Samsung SDI Co. are among the approximately 250 battery and battery parts manufacturers and automotive companies around the world participating in InterBattery 2022, which takes place at the Convention and Exhibition Center (COEX) for three days through Saturday.

Quoted by Yonhap, Thursday (17/3), the InterBattery exhibition, which was first launched in 2013, is an annual business event that showcases various new products and technologies related to the battery industry.

This year’s session was jointly organized by the Ministry of Commerce, Industry and Energy and the Korea Battery Industry Association.

During the exhibition, SK On, a newcomer as a separate entity after splitting from SK Innovation Co., will introduce its new high-nickel lithium-ion battery, known as NCM9, and premium Z-folding technology for separators, the company said in a release.

SK On will also showcase high-quality cathode materials, a key component of batteries, followed by S-Pack technology which is designed to block heat from spreading to the battery from the cells in the event of a fire.

A range of electric vehicles by car partner SK On, including a Ferrari plug-in hybrid model of the SF90 Stradale sports car, as well as other models by Hyundai Motor Co. and Mercedes-Benz will be on display.

LG Energy Solution Ltd., the world’s second largest battery maker, will introduce a range of products, from electric vehicles, ICT devices and energy storage systems to e-scooters running on battery systems.

Its signature Gen5 battery will be installed in new BMW vehicles, and a roadmap for the next generation Gen6, solid-state battery and cobalt-free battery will also be presented.

Its exhibit on solid-state batteries will include lightweight lithium-sulfur batteries known for their high energy density and enhanced sustainability, the company said.

Samsung SDI will also introduce its recently launched PRiMX battery brand, offering superior technology and quality. They will also showcase their product lineup for PRiMX powered power tools, energy storage systems, and mobility and artificial intelligence (AI) robots. (Ant/OL-12)
