Russia Makes Rossgram to Replace Instagram

Tech industry players in Russia will launch Rossgram, as a replacement for Instagram which is blocked in the country.

Rossgram, quoted by Reuters on Thursday, will launch on March 28. This app is not only for sharing photos, but, it also has paid services and crowdfunding.

“My colleague Kirill Filimonov and our group of developers were ready for this event and didn’t want to miss the opportunity to create a Russian version of the popular social network, by the nation’s children,” said Rossgram’s director of public relations, Alexander Zobov.

Zobov shared a photo on the Vkontakt platform about Rossgram, the color choice and layout of the application is similar to Instagram.

Russia has been aggressively developing domestic technology for some time, one of which is the AYYA T1 cellphone made by the Rostec conglomerate.

In November 2021, Gazprom Media launched Yappy, a TikTok-like platform.

Russia’s communications regulator Roskomnadzor blocked Instagram last week because Meta Platforms, the parent company of Instagram and Facebook, allowed hateful posts about Russia.

Meta reasoned that it was wrong to prevent Ukraine from expressing their anger over the Russian invasion. (Ant/OL-12)
