Metro TV Distributes Free Set Top Boxes for Underprivileged Communities

IN order to support the gradual implementation of Analog Switch Off (ASO) throughout Indonesia, Metro TV as the organizer of multiplexing together with the Ministry of Communication and Informatics distributed free Set Top Boxes (STB) to underprivileged communities, which were symbolically handed over by Arif Nugroho – HR, Finance & Technical Support Director of Metro TV in Banda Aceh.

“This Set Top Box distribution is Metro TV’s commitment in supporting the acceleration of analog to digital TV migration. Currently, we are distributing STB in parallel in the provinces of Aceh and East Kalimantan, then there are still hundreds of thousands of quotas for STB which will be distributed in other regions in Indonesia in stages,” said Arif in his written statement, Wednesday (16/3/2022).

In the symbolic handover ceremony, the Ministry of Communications and Informatics also conducted socialization to local governments and local village officials about the distribution mechanism and installation of STB in residents’ homes. Previously, Metro TV had tested the distribution of 93 STB for the community in the village of Sessions, Serang, Banten on March 9, 2022.

The distribution of free STB is an effort to help underprivileged communities to be able to watch digital TV broadcasts when ASO is implemented. Based on the Regulation of the Minister of Communication and Information Number 11 of 2021, the implementation of ASO will be carried out in three stages, namely the first stage is carried out no later than 30 April 2020, the second stage is carried out no later than 25 August 2022, and the third stage is carried out no later than 2 November 2022.

Through digital TV, people can watch television broadcasts with high-resolution picture quality, clearer sound and a wider selection of television channels. (OL-13)
