TECHNOLOGY Metaverse as a breakthrough in technological innovation is starting to become a new world trend. Metaverse, which is able to offer many virtual activities with real-world experiences, will influence the development of the digital economy.

WIR Group CEO & Co-Founder Michael Budi said, the metaverse with augmented reality (AR) and virtual reality (VR) devices can be used by the wider community and companies.

The purpose of using the metaverse is to improve business performance and increase sales. He appreciates the many brands that are currently competing to enter the metaverse.

“Currently, many are competing to enter the metaverse because infrastructure that was previously more expensive is now more affordable,” said Michael at the Indonesia Data and Economic Conference (IDE) Katadata 2022 webinar with the theme ‘How Will Metaverse Change The World’, Tuesday (5/2). /2022).

He added, with the metaverse platform, people not only consume but also produce or produce. For example, currently Generation Z produces content on Youtube. The concept of generating a metaverse that can be used in general applies to MSMEs and all shops.

“Everyone can produce something and produce in it,” said Michael.

WIR Group itself is one of the Indonesian companies that is exploring metaverse technology. The WIR Group, which was founded in 2009, has served more than a thousand projects in 200 countries for the creation of virtual shops and augmented reality-based internet of things devices.

Later, WIR Group collaborated with Bank BNI to create a metaverse. SEVP Digital Business, PT Bank Negara Indonesia Rian Eriana Kaslan explained, BNI entered the metaverse with the aim of developing technology.

“We anticipate the metaverse as a technological development that is in accordance with the wishes of customers to get a better experience. And the experience is not only when making transactions but more about how to use the metaverse,” he said.

He said BNI is considering using the metaverse to get the best experience, namely education and information on customers or prospective customers from the community in improving financial literacy.

Director of Information Empowerment of the Ministry of Communications and Informatics Bonifasius Wahyu Pudjianto said research as of 2019 shows VR and AR have the potential to increase global GDP by up to 1.5 trillion US dollars.

In addition, VR and AR are having an impact on work. Data shows that there is an increase in the number of workers in 2019. There are 824 thousand jobs associated with VR and AR. However, the projections made in 2030 will reach 23.3 million new jobs.

“We take a deep look at the metaverse of its impact on the future of the digital economy. I quote JP Morgan, this metaverse will permeate all lines of the economy. The economic opportunity is estimated to reach approximately 1 trillion US dollars per year. It is very large, even more than it is estimated “By 2026, 25 percent of the population will spend at least 1 hour per day in the metaverse.
