Beringin Corner: Contemporary Photo Spot in Singkawang, Beautiful at Night

Singkawang has a new photo spot, namely Beringin Corner. Travelers can take selfies with a variety of beautiful Chinese New Year decorations at night.

Approaching Chinese New Year, the city of Singkawang continues to preen. Various corners of the city are beautified, including the Beringin Corner which was just inaugurated in 2020.

Beringin Corner is arguably a new spot for young people in Singkawang to fulfill their hidden desire to take selfies. The appearance is very Instagramable at night.

Beringin Corner is one of the corners of the intersection between Jalan Sejahtera and Jalan Pangeran Diponegoro. As the name implies, there is a banyan tree standing right at the intersection of the road. So the spot was named Beringin Corner.

Banyan Corner has also become one of the busiest spots in Singkawang city on Chinese New Year’s Eve, in addition to the Tri Dharma Bumi Raya Vihara. From detikTravel’s observations, Monday (31/1/2021) night, hundreds of visitors came one after another to flood the Banyan Corner.

As if never stopped, the waves of visitors kept coming. They looked engrossed in taking pictures with various Chinese New Year decorations installed there.

The main attraction of Beringin Corner, of course, lies in the various Chinese New Year ornaments that are there. There are 3 tiger statues displayed here. The Tiger statue corresponds to the 2022 zodiac sign, the Tiger with the water element.

Banyan Corner is also decorated with various red lanterns and lights that add to the splendor. This area is also decorated with Mei Hwa trees which are very typical of Chinese New Year.

Many visitors also use this area to take selfies. Not only those who are of Chinese blood, there are also many veiled brothers and sisters who take selfies there. One of them is Nurul (18) who came here with his friend.

“Nice, colorful. Come here with friends, it doesn’t matter if you’re used to coming here,” said Nurul.

Banyan Corner is indeed not devoted to one particular ethnicity or religion. Every time there is a big day celebration, the decorations at the Beringin Corner will change according to the event.

For example, at Christmas Banyan Corner turns into a Winter Land complete with a snowman, Santa Claus and his reindeer sleigh. Likewise with the Eid celebration, the Banyan Corner will be equipped with Eid ornaments.
